Celebrate Breakaway Day with this new audiobook download of Space: 1999 The Armageddon Engine.
This thrilling new adventure by renowned author James Swallow is set during the original run of the television show which was created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, and starred Martin Landau and Barbara Bain.
Jamie Anderson, managing director of Anderson Entertainment, is delighted with this classic Space: 1999 adventure. Jamie says: “The story is very Year One-esque and sits very much in the original TV series canon. James pitched three synopses and this one was an instant hit with the Anderson team. The others were great too but this felt like the perfect kicking off point. We know James is a big Anderson fan (he's been on The Gerry Anderson Podcast twice), and he's got a fantastic history with tie-in media and his own best sellers. An ideal partner.”
Writer James says: “For a life-long Space: 1999 fan like me, this has been great! I have a lot of fondness for the series as being an important science-fiction show from my youth, and I’ve always wondered what it might be like to write a story set in their world, with all the characters. “I wanted to draw from all my favourite elements of Space: 1999 and assemble a storyline that feels like it could be a part of the show. My intention from the start was to write like a 1970s sci-fi author, in some ways emulating writers such as Johnny Byrne, E.C. Tubb, John Rankine and Brian Ball so that The Armageddon Engine seems like a lost episode that dovetails with everything in the series. “The story is set late in the first season of Space: 1999 and I gave it a mix of the deep, cosmic narratives from Year One with a bit of the action-forward storytelling as seen in Year Two.”
Adrift in deep space, Commander John Koenig and the people of Moonbase Alpha face an uncertain fate when a planet-killing alien weapon at the heart of a sinister cloud diverts their lost Moon on to a fatal trajectory. As each moment brings the Moon closer to total obliteration, Koenig leads a desperate mission into the unknown to save all life on Alpha. Does hope lie among a rag-tag colony of refugees hiding in the shadow of devastation? Or can the Alphans find a path into the heart of the war machine and end its destructive rampage? With time running out, the answer will mean the difference between survival… or annihilation.
Narrated by actor Mark Elstob with sound design and music by Benji Clifford, you can download this fantastic new audiobook adventure now.
