Always glad to see new S1999 stories and recognize James Swallow from many a great WH40k tale. This is a sweet read, characterization is done well , notably Victor and the general tone was episode authentic. A thrilling adventure that while uses common tropes adds a little tweak, and even the expected twist is done well, effectively. Loving the nostalgia.. peace.
The books arrived, they were in a box with minimal protection but after emailing them with pictures they up'd their game. Good communication and very helpful. Will buy again.
I purchased The Armageddon Engine, which was a quick and fun read; it was bundled with Shadow Play, which I wasn't expecting to purchase but as it was just a few more quid, why not? It was also very entertaining, and made me want to go back and watch the series again. My only slight concern is that I'm not quite sure how well the bindings will hold up to repeated reading. Otherwise, very well produced, well written, and fun! Arrived super quick too, even to Canada with a postal strike!
I was only going to order "The Armageddon Engine", but the bundle deal included "Shadow Play" for just a little bit more (and postage was no more expensive) - so I thought "why not?" They are both fast-paced, well written and entertaining. I've only seen "UFO" a few times but enjoyed the story of "Shadow Play". "The Armageddon Engine" was a hoot - faithful characterization and an entertaining, if not wholly original plot. I certainly hope more are written.
These books are fantasic capturing the feel of both series' and tell a story that would fit in well into the original runs of the the shows. Perfect read for anyone who is fan, with a character deep dive with UFO, and a tense adventure for Space:1999.
