Scott Tracy In Crisis: Hand Created Image (Exclusive and Official Artist Signed and Numbered Print]

The Official Gerry Anderson Store is offering here an exclusive, very unique and limited Thunderbirds Print. Created by Screenprinting artist John Reynolds, this licensed official hand-created print features Scott Tracy in a crisis as he calls the shots in his role as International Rescue's field commander.

Here John explains his inspiration for the print, how it was created and the material used.

Many of my images started life in Century 21 comics and annuals in the 1960s. I start by finding an image that will suit the medium – something quite bold but relatively simple as I feel that screenprinting lends itself to dramatic images with strong colours and outlines.

Screenprinting is a low-tech form of printing. I make my prints completely by hand in my studio in west London, one colour at a time, using nylon screens that hold the stencils (these used to be made of silk but are now also nylon). The screen-making process is the complicated bit – it involves coating the screens with light-sensitive emulsion and then exposing these to the stencils through UV light.

Most Thunderbirds stories are in full colour. I reduce the image to black and white and then create individual templates for each colour to build the image back up. Once the screens are prepared, I print the lightest colour first – perhaps yellow – then let that dry – and in turn add red, blue and finally black, the key, to pull it all together.

Registration is vital but it's inevitable that there will be some misalignment as this is all done by eye. The slight differences from one print to another are part of the attraction of the medium – evidence that the prints are made by hand rather than printed by a machine.

These prints have been produced in editions limited to 50 prints. They are numbered in pencil, signed by me, John Patrick Reynolds, and have a hand-written copyright line on the back.

The paper is 100% cotton Somerset satin white sheet, mould-made at the St Cuthberts Mill in Somerset.

Each piece is 38cms x 28cms (the print area will be smaller) sleeved in a cello bag and cardboard.

Please note: The print is NOT framed and when framing the print we suggest consulting a framing specialist.
