The Moon has been sucked through a wormhole in space and has arrived countless miles away from its proper place. The crew of Moonbase Alpha can only guess at the resultant devastation left behind on Earth. They must decide how best they can survive. Some Alphans find it difficult to let go of the notion of returning to Earth, others are facing the reality that they must find another home to ensure the survival of the human race. Not too hot, not too cold. The perfect planet on which life can thrive. But not all forms of life that thrive in the Goldilocks zone are peaceful.
Investigating this lush paradise, the Alphans must battle an ancient terror for survival.

United KingdomI really enjoy listening to these Big Finish audio adventures, as the title suggests the stories expand and give more depth to the characters and you really feel their highs and lows, their trials and tribulations. United StatesThe "Space: 1999" Big Finish Audio volumes ("Breakaway" and "Vol. 1") are very engaging and I appreciate the behind-the-scenes tracks available for each episode and for the collection. I finished listening to them while on an airplane and when I closed my eyes, the crowded jet turned into an Eagle on its way to the next Alphan adventure. The casting is terrific and the adaptions of existing and new stories are highly entertaining. The writers also do a great job of filling in some blanks (such as what was Commissioner Simmonds up to between "Breakaway" and "Earthbound"). I cannot wait until "Vol. 2" is released.
United KingdomI’ve not heard Big Finish’s interpretation of “Breakaway” but on the strength of this second volume it’s now on my Christmas list. This audio re-imagining of Space: 1999 seems to have smoothed over the inconsistencies that were apparent in the TV show to deliver three enjoyable adventures that remain true to the material that inspired it. It’s not perfect: Mark Bonnar’s accent doesn’t seem quite right and there are one or two nods to what one might term ‘modern sensibilities’ that are somewhat gratuitous, but these are minor quibbles. It’s also nice to see the character of Commissioner Simmons have some proper development. Recommended! Also a shout out to customer service at The Gerry Anderson Store. Excellent!
