Space: 1999 10 inch Eagle One Transporter

25 reviews

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS ITEM IS SOLD OUT

This officially licensed die-cast highly detailed scale model of the primary vessel of Moonbase Alpha will arrive packaged in a full-colour box along with a 16-page authoritative magazine on the classic Eagle and Space: 1999 Series.

A cult classic of 70s sci-fi, the TV series Space: 1999 followed the spacefaring adventures of Moonbase Alpha, whose 311 personnel were left stranded when a massive nuclear explosion sent the Moon itself hurtling into deep space.

Designed by Academy Award-winning SFX director Brian Johnson (Alien, Star Wars, 2001: A Space Odyssey), the Eagle One is the iconic hero ship of Space 1999, and the primary transport for the crew of Moonbase Alpha. This modular vessel had many alternative configurations: it’s presented here with its transport module.

Powered by 4 fusion rockets, the Eagle One could reach speeds of 23,700 miles per second, and fly for up to 48 hours. This Transporter Eagle (or "Type A") could hold 8-12 passengers, plus the pilot and co-pilot, sacrificing space for scientific equipment or weaponry in favour of a passenger pod.

Fantastic detailed Eagle looks amazing on display

This Eagle model is very finely detailed and is a perfect size for display. And the price is much more affordable than most of the other models available. Personally I don't mind the colour - as others have said it isn't bright white, it's very pale grey (actually it's more of an old white) but it makes the Eagle seem tougher and meaner somehow, more of a working spacecraft than a shiny show piece. After all, with so many crashes and explosions you can't expect the fleet to continue to look sparkling and new. I'm sure the Alphans would reuse parts from salvaged Eagles so I doubt very much that the white would stay so bright over time. I was a bit disappointed that the box had a few corner bumps and scuffs, but the model itself is perfect. I'm so impressed by this Eagle model that I've now ordered the Booster Eagle and have pre ordered the Laboratory Eagle. If Big Chief's 1/6 scale Commander Koenig ever gets made and delivered (it'll be 2 years come November since I pre ordered him) he'll look amazing surrounded by all these Eagles. For me, the Eagles, Cmdr Koenig himself (the great Martin Landau) plus Barry Gray's theme for Series 1 are pretty much the coolest things in Space: 1999.

The Wind Beneath My Eagle Wings

I bought this to make up for trashing my childhood Dinky Eagle to oblivion in the late 1970's. This is a delightful, detailed 10 inch model and is significantly more affordable than most of the other Eagles on sale. It is pleasing to the eye and, unlike my Dinky, won't be hurled about the room in attempts to simulate crashes. My only caveat was that this model is light battleship grey in colour, not white (or, Dinky green). But, I got over that quickly and still love it. Buy with confidence.
